Log #5 - I may have gone too far
Well, I was clearly too confident this week.
Since I started to feel ok managing 5 different blogs, I said to myself "Why not launching more blogs?!"
So I did it, and, as you can expect, it didn't go as planned.
Managing a total of 9 different blog at the same time implies some things. One of them is not being able to fully control the quality of the content published (another one is taking shortcuts in the content strategy).
So I took the whole morning this Sunday to deeply think about what I want and where I'm going, and to make some difficult decisions.
What do I want?
My main source of revenue (seremettredunerupture.com) no longer works. Google decided to kill it for obscure reasons and my traffic has gone from 2000 daily visitors to 100. I didn't make a ton of money from it because of some mistakes in my positioning (around 1500 euros per month with a peak of 5000 euros). But now, I make nothing anymore. Zero.
I tried to sell it a few weeks ago but got no responses. I could revamp it, but I would need to generate 10x the current traffic to make around 1000 euros. I truly don't think this is possible, and even if it were, I don't think my time would be best spent doing this.
So, anyway. I got some savings, but clearly I am not going to last long with it. So, what I want is to have enough first to be able to move to South East Asia AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. So let's say 1000 euros per month again since I don't mind eating pad thai every day.
After that, what I want is clearly to build some good projects that will last and can have a good impact.
Where am I going?
So my main plan was to first build blogs and after that start to be a freelance copywriter while waiting for these blogs to gain traction.
(I did this as well in order to have some projects with traffic already while learning to code, and then build something out of it.)
The fact is, if I truly want these blogs to gain traction, it's going to take way more time, and moving to South East Asia is becoming more and more urgent for me since I don't feel good living here in Paris.
So while I will keep learning to code, I need to prioritize finding clients and start working as a copywriter, this one is obvious.
Regarding the projects I am building, I need to kill some of them strategically.
Some difficult decisions to make
Well, I am not going to talk about the ones I killed this week before even working on them, I am just going to talk about the ones you already know and the ones I started this week.
Here they are:
- Cheap Dates
- Attached Academy
- Spirit Animal World
- SOPMate Pro
- Week Fit
- Copywriting Codex
Cheap Dates: I decided to kill it. I first wanted to build a blog around affordable dates and then use an affiliate program to earn money, but the only affiliate program I found is not suited for my needs and I can't find any other ways to monetize. I thought about an ebook or an online course, but I don't think it will truly work since there's no big need here. I could probably sell it for 5000 dollars with enough traffic, but the time I will invest to build it can be worth more if I focus on other projects.
Attached Academy: I decided to keep it. The potential here is incredibly promising. The amount of possible traffic is insane and I have an edge since I know a lot about attachment theory and I also built my own method. I am confident I can make something good around it providing good value.
Spirit Animal World: I decided to keep it. I am mainly building it in order to sell it. Same as Attached Academy, the amount of possible traffic is insane and I think I can provide something good of value without too much difficulty.
SOPMate Pro: I decided to kill it... For now. Yeah, I know it seems to be a weird decision since I got 2 subscribers last week on this project. The fact is, building a real SaaS that will provide a good enough reason to not rely on Loom AI to make SOP is going to take some time (probably a year from now since I am still learning to code), and I am not totally sure if the revenue I could earn from it would be worth this time. So, for now, I simply decided to stop publishing new articles and keep it in my drawer. The low possible traffic from SEO is not worth the time invested in making articles and templates to download. I will see later next year what to do with it.
Week Fit: I decided to keep it. For this one, I have a goal of adding some affiliate links and/or building an app around it. The competition is really huge in this market, but I found some hidden backdoors to appear on Google. The fact is, I don't want to spend too much time on this one since the risk is high, so what I did is I finished posting all the necessary articles this week and now I'll just wait and see.
Copywriting Codex: This one is a new one I introduced this week. Few weeks ago I decided to abandon the pursuit of the French "copywriter freelance" keyword only to focus on actually becoming a Freelance Copywriter. But the fact is, as I went deeper into the keyword research, I found that there's a good opportunity to build a successful business here. The French market is becoming more and more interested in becoming a copywriter and there's clearly a space still available on Google for a website about being a copywriter.
As a recap:
While keep learning to code and starting to find clients as a copywriter, I will now focus on:
- Attached Academy
- Spirit Animal World
- Copywriting Codex
